Metallica’s Las Vegas era is getting closer, and drummer Lars Ulrich says the band is embracing the pressure. In a new interview with Louder, Ulrich discusses the challenge of bringing Metallica’s live spectacle to Sphere, where the band’s Life Burns Faster residency begins October 1, 2026.

Ulrich sees Sphere as a new creative frontier

Ulrich said watching U2 perform at Sphere’s opening-night residency left him inspired by the venue’s scale and technology. He now views Metallica’s run as a chance to push the band outside the environments it already knows how to control.

That makes the residency more than a standard concert booking. Sphere’s wraparound LED display, immersive audio and multisensory effects will give Metallica a new production challenge—and fans a different way to experience the band’s catalog.

Metallica’s 24-show Las Vegas run

According to Metallica’s official announcement, Life Burns Faster has expanded to 24 shows at Sphere. The schedule runs from October 1, 2026, through March 13, 2027, with performances in October, November, January, February and March.

The residency follows Metallica’s “No Repeat Weekend” format. Fans attending both Thursday and Saturday shows are promised two different setlists, while single-night tickets are also available in limited quantities.
